Saying Goodbye to My Dad

It started with a cool autumn run
The orange leaves crunching underneath my feet
Surrounded by nature's beauty and thoughts of you
Feeling you with me, feeling your spirit and knowing how much you are enjoying these trails with me
Feeling deep down a sense of peace despite knowing what I will have to do later today

Later...watching your ashes dissipate and disappear under the clear blue water
No tears, just calmness
The world swirls around me as your ashes swirl
down down down
Finally you are one with the waters you love so much
And I can't help but feel happy for you
Because now you are free

Celeste Lynn Kanpurwala

My name is Celeste Kanpurwala, and I am a mother, wife, survivor, activist, speaker, and writer from Ann Arbor, MI. I am a Senior Survivor Fellow with Moms Demand Action & Everytown for Gun Safety, as well as an entrepreneur of Bold Brave Goddess, which I formed after becoming sober in September 2019. In it I tell my story of grief to my path toward healing so that I can help others going through trauma, tragedy, or just the roller coaster of life. I practice self care daily through meditation, yoga, running, laughing, and/or many other things. Right now I want to draw attention to those struggling with mental health issues and who are unsafe in their homes due to the presence of guns during this coronavirus crisis.
